Tickets Go On Sale to Public Friday, Jan. 11; USA Opens 2013 against Scotland on Feb. 9 in Jacksonville, Fla.

CHICAGO (Dec. 20, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Team will make a two-game tour of the southeast to open 2013 as a second U.S. WNT match against Scotland has been added on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn. Fans can follow U.S. WNT matches live online via ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and Twitter @ussoccer_wnt.

        Additional Notes

        ·         The Feb. 13 match will mark just the fourth for the U.S. WNT in the state of Tennessee. The USA played two games against Sweden in Chattanooga in 1997 (one of them a closed-door contest) and faced Canada at LP Field (when it was named The Coliseum) on July 2, 2004, in one of the final matches before the 2004 Olympics in Greece.

        ·         The USA has played Scotland in an official match just one time in its history. Scotland visited Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, in September 2002 in what turned out to be an 8-2 victory for the Americans.

        ·         Abby Wambach scored her first career hat trick in that game in Columbus. The goals were just the second, third and fourth of her career. Mia Hamm also had a hat trick in that match, the last of eight that she had in her career.

        ·         Wambach currently has 152 goals, just six short of tying Hamm for the most goals in the history of international soccer.

        ·         Scotland barely missed out on a berth in the 2013 European Championships, coming seconds away from qualifying before giving up a goal in stoppage time of overtime to Spain in the second leg of a two-game playoff.

        ·         The U.S. WNT finished 2012 with a record of 28-1-3 will finish the year at No. 1 in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

APSU vs David Libscomb (47 of 96)

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Austin Peay State University’s men’s basketball team watched a 12-point advantage disappear in the final three minutes of the game, Tuesday night at the Dunn Center, as Lipscomb rallied to send the Govs to their third straight loss in an 87-84 final.

Leading 84-72 following two free throws by senior Anthony Campbell with 3:09 left in the game, Austin Peay (4-7) looked like it had the game in control. But those free throws would be the final points scored by the Govs on the night, as Lipscomb scored the final 15 points of the game to defeat Austin Peay for the fourth straight time.

“The games 40 minutes long and you have to play all of the minutes and we didn’t,” Austin Peay coach Dave Loos said. “It’s disappointing because I thought we showed some signs of life out there early, but you have to finish.”

Lipscomb (5-5) would start its rally on a traditional three-point play by Clarksville Academy graduate Martin Smith, but back-to-back turnovers by juniors Will Triggs and Jeremy Purvis allowed the Bisons to score four more quick points, cutting the Govs lead to five, 84-79, with 2:50 left in the game.

Austin Peay had two chances to cut short the Lipscomb rally, but Purvis missed two free throws and sophomore Chris Freeman missed a layup before the Bisons Carter Sanderson hit a layup with 2:03 left to make it a three-point game, 84-81.

Another turnover, this time by freshman Chris Horton, with 1:36 left, led to another layup by Smith and Austin Peay’s largest lead of 12 points was now down to one point, 84-83.

Again Austin Peay had two chances on its next possession to stem the onslaught, but Purvis missed a jumper and Horton turned the ball over following his rebound of the missed shot by Purvis.

Malcolm Smith would follow with a layup for Lipscomb to give the Bisons their first lead since the 17:05 mark of the second half, 85-84, with 62 second left in the game.

Austin Peay would then have four straight chances to retake the lead, but missed shots by Freeman and Campbell and two missed free throws each by Triggs and Purvis allowed Lipscomb to hang on to its lead.

Lipscomb would make it a three-point deficit, 87-84, with six seconds left on a dunk by Martin Smith.

The Govs tried to get a game-tying three off but the ball was knocked around just past the midcourt line and Travis Betran’s desperation three attempt came after the buzzer.

Austin Peay would place five players into double figures, led by Campbell’s career-high 25 points.

Freeman would also post a career-high 15 points, while Betran finished with 14, Horton 12 and Triggs 11 points.

Lipscomb was led by 6-10, 285-pound center Stephen Hurt, who scoring 23 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Martin Smith added 19 points.

“Lipscomb’s ability to get to the rim in the second half was costly,” Loos said. “I know that people will look at the missed free throws at the end, and that was huge, but again they dominated us inside getting 53 points in the paint. They just kept getting to the rim one way or the other.”

Austin Peay returns to action on Saturday, 2 p.m., as it travels to Illinois State for its last non-conference contest before Christmas.
