Clarksville, TN - When you wait nearly four hours to watch a baseball game, and then you wait another two and a half for the offense to show up, you go the extra mile and write something about it at one in the morning.
For most of the evening in the series opener against the Mets, the Braves offense looked like it has at various disappointing times this season: confused, disinterested and downright broken. Against Zack Greinke, Madison Bumgarner and Jordan Zimmermann, this was understandable – against Dillon Gee, it was just about the most felonious thing a lineup could be.

Clarksville, TN – In case you couldn’t stay up and watch the uber-late contests between against the Dodgers and Padres, you’re in luck. I did. I also had some stray observations.
- Yasiel Puig is really, really good. The ball jumps off his bat in an effortless way that’s unusual. His eighth-inning grand slam in the opener was a long ball on a smooth swing. This influx of Cuban talent the last few years (Puig, Yoenis Cespedes, Aroldis Chapman) has been good for the fans; I’m hopeful the Braves will land a guy like that one year.
- The Dodgers have a perpetual ‘You talking to me, bro?’ swagger about them (for full details, see their brawl with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday). It’s a little bit odd for a 28-37 team, but that’s Don Mattingly’s problem for at least a little while longer. «Read the rest of this article»
