Clarksville, TN – With inclement weather in the area threatening to bring thunderstorms through Montgomery County for much of Saturday, the 2019 Austin Peay Invitational—the APSU Track and Field team’s annual home event—has moved to an all-day Friday affair at Fortera Stadium.

The Govs will welcome a host of area programs to the event, including Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont, Murray State, Tennessee State and UT Martin. Competitors from Alabama-Huntsville, Bethel, Cumberland, Fisk, Freed Hardeman, Kentucky Wesleyan, Martin Methodist, Union and Western Kentucky also will be in attendance.
Last season, junior Tymeitha Tolbert set the program record with an 11.51 100m dash mark, which won her the event and ultimately led her to the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary; she enters the weekend ranked second in the league at 11.87 this season.
In her final home event, senior Nia Gibbs-Francis will look to build on her performance last week at the Hilltopper Relays, where she set a career-best in the high jump and earned a fifth-place finish in her first-ever 400m hurdles attempt. She’s currently second in the OVC in the high jump and 53rd in the NCAA East region.
After Morgan Bradley’s 3.71m in her pole vault season debut last week, the Govs own the top-three marks in the league in the event, with seniors Savannah Amato (3.95m) and Dascha Hix (3.80m) in the top two spots; the duo hasn’t competed since Florida but still maintain their stranglehold on the league.
League-leader Sabrina Richman looks to extend her lead in the 400m dash, while sophomore Lennex Walker will look to move up in the 100m hurdles and long jump, events where she currently ranks in the top-five in the league. After picking up a win a week ago in the 200m dash, freshman Kyra Wilder is just a half-second behind Murray State’s Tamdra Lawrence in the 200m lists.
At roughly 6:45 p.m., Friday, Austin Peay will honor seniors Savannah Amato, Nia Gibbs-Francis, Wesley Gray, Dascha Hix, Caroline Kiplagat, Emmaculate Kiplagat, Hezron Kiptoo and Tymeitha Tolbert for their contributions to the program.
