Kicking off the event, freshmen Tiyanna Johnson (24.67, 57th) and Kyra Wilder (24.86, 66th) both represented Austin Peay in the 200m dash, with Johnson turning in a career-best time in the event.
That was followed by sophomore Sabrina Richman , whose 55.45 in the 400m dash placed her 22nd in the 55-runner event; the Atlanta native led a quartet of Govs including junior Amelia Thiesing (57.26, 37th), freshman Jessica Kelley (personal-best 59.63) and sophomore Allana Johnson (59.83).
Featuring competitors from some of the best teams in the nation including powerhouses Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and many, many more, Friday’s second day of competition will have more Austin Peay vestiges. Sophomore Lennex Walker will run the 100m hurdles in a stacked field of talent comparable to a regional event (12:15pm ET) while many of the principles involved today will take on the 4x400m relay event at 5:40pm (ET).
Both Savannah Amato and Dascha Hix , who were held out of competition last week at Vanderbilt, are on the list to compete in the pole vault, 3 p.m. (ET), Friday; if the senior duo competes, it will put 12 of the top-50 competitors in the NCAA East in the field in Florida.
Day two action also will be streamed on the SEC Network + and Watch ESPN. Live results will be provided via Delta Timing.
Also kicking off Friday in Cape Girardeau is the Joey Haines Invitational, which will feature several Govs in action. While only the hammer and 10,000m run will take place Friday, a full slate of events kicks off at noon, Saturday, with 100m standout Tymeitha Tolbert among the Austin Peay luminaries scheduled to appear.
