Clarksville, TN – After so much time in sunny Florida, Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s golf team will play its final two regular season tournaments in the Bluegrass State, beginning with this weekend’s Colonel Classic. The two-day event, hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the Club at Arlington, begins Friday in Richmond.
The Club at Arlington will play at 5,885 yards and par-72, with an 8:30am (ET) shotgun start on Friday for the first 36 holes. Saturday will feature the final 18 and a 9:00am shotgun.
The Govs will square off against a trio of Ohio Valley Conference foes in host EKU, Belmont and Tennessee Tech, with Akron, Ball State, Cleveland State, University of the Cumberlands, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Oakland and Ohio also in the field.
A year ago, inclement weather reduced this event to 36 holes and left the Govs tied for eighth in the 14-team field, with many of the same programs making return trips for this year’s event. Ashton Goodley was Austin Peay’s lone representative in the top-20 last year and looks to pick up her third straight finish inside the top-20 or better in this event; she’s never finished lower than 24th in three previous journeys to the University Club.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it appears to be head coach Amy McCollum ‘s modus operandi to lineup construction; once again, the Govs will trot out a lineup helmed by freshman Taylor Dedman, who hopes for a fourth straight top-10 finish in tournament play as she continues to put together a season worthy of OVC Freshman of the Year honors.
Behind Dedmen will be Reagan Greene and Meghann Stamps , both veterans with ample experience on this course; Stamps hopes to ride the final-round momentum of a front-nine 33 two weeks ago at the Citrus Challenge into this event. Twins Taylor and Ashton Goodley will round out the lineup, with sophomore Riley Cooper slated to play as the individual as she continues to rehab an injury which cost her much of the fall calendar.
The Govs will be paired with the host Colonels and Northern Illinois, off Hole Nos. 1-3, in Friday’s shotgun start. Live scoring will be provided via Golfstat.com.
