The event’s 4:00pm Friday, March 21st start will find the Govs lining up alongside student-athletes from a pair of SEC schools (Vanderbilt and Kentucky) and four other Ohio Valley Conference foes (Belmont, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech).
Also set to be represented will be Ball State, Butler, Central Michigan, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Hillsdale, Indiana State, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Loyola, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Trevecca, UAB, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.
Sophomore Maya Perry-Grimes, who took the season’s first OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week honor for outdoor season earlier this week, will be in action in both the triple jump and long jump; she won both two weeks ago at the Coastal Carolina Invitational to open the outdoor campaign.
Senior Savannah Amato will look for her first career victory in the pole vault in three attempts at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold—she was sixth as a freshman and runner-up last season. She slots in as the top seed in the 25-athlete field, along with 2018 NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers Caleigh Lofstead and Margaret Ollinger of Vanderbilt.
Indoor OVC 60m hurdle gold medalist Lennex Walker will run in the top heat of the 100m hurdles, while junior Tymeitha Tolbert will be in the top heat of the 100m dash, alongside a pair of Kentucky athletes—Kianna Gray and Celera Barnes—she joined at last season’s NCAA East Preliminary.
After missing most of indoor season due to injury, freshman Kori McDaniel will make her return at the same place her career started back in December. She was on an upward trajectory before injury robbed her of most of the winter.
