Opelika, AL – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf played solidly on the second day of competition at the Grand National Lake Course, site of the 2019 Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner, gaining ground in a much more forgiving climate on the second day of play.

The Govs improved one spot in the standings, with a chance for a big day Tuesday to close out the tournament; Austin Peay is just nine strokes from the field’s top-10.
Austin Peay’s big mover on Monday was junior Michael Busse, overcame a bogey to start on No. 10 and a late double with four birdies, firing a one-under 71 and moving into a tie for 48th. He birdied the par-4, 428-yard No. 2—which once again played as the fourth most-difficult hole of the day—and also sank one of five round two birdies on the par-4, 470-yard No. 13.
Sophomores Garrett Whitfield and Chase Korte have been two of Austin Peay’s most consistent performers since they arrived on campus, and Monday was no different. Whitfield’s, who was even-par on the back-nine, remains Austin Peay’s two-day leader at 151 (74-77; t-44th), while Korte is tied with Busse, one shot back (76-76, t-48th) after carding his second 76 in as many days; he leads the team with seven birdies through 36 holes and ranks second in the tournament with a 2.88 average on par-3 holes.
Freshman Micah Knisley (76-77—153; t-53rd) and junior Austin Lancaster (81-76—157; t-70th) rounded out the field for the Governors. Knisely’s 25 pars were two below the tournament lead, while Lancaster birdied the monster 545-yard par-5 on No. 14.
Final-round action begins 8:50am, Tuesday, with the Govs going off No. 10 alongside Chattanooga and FAU.
