Savannah, GA – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf team was again among the best performers in the final round of the 2019 Invitational at Savannah Harbor, hosted by William & Mary.
But one big final round move conspired to knock the Govs from atop the leaderboard and forced them to settle for runner-up honors in the 18-team field at the Club at Savannah Harbor, Sunday.

The Govs finished two shots behind champion USC Beaufort, whose final-round 282 took them from eighth all the way to first with an 872 three-round total.
The Govs (298-280-296—874) held off North Dakota State (875) for runner-up, with Bethune-Cookman and Belmont tying for fourth at 880 apiece.
Junior Michael Busse was the top finisher for Austin Peay, parlaying a final-round 72 into a fourth-place, one-under par (74-69-72) finish. He was the tournament-leader in par-5 scoring (4.67/hole) and led the Govs in birdies (13) and par-4 scoring (4.00/hole) as well.
Sophomore Chase Korte backed up his second-round 68 with a 73 to secure his place in the top-20; he finished 15th with a two-over 218 (77-68-73) and picked up one of just four final-round birdies on the 596-yard par-5 No. 7.
After overcoming an opening-round 80, junior Austin Lancaster continued his march up the leaderboard with a final-round 74, good for a 224 overall (80-70-74) and a tie for 35th. After struggling on the front nine during the final round, the Hendersonville native carded a one-under 35 on the back nine to finish strong.
Freshman Micah Knisley (73-73-79—225; t-43rd) and sophomore Garrett Whitfield (74-77-77—228; t-64th) rounded out the tournament for the Govs. Knisley carded four birdies on the front nine, including a chirper on the par-4 at No. 9 which—after playing as one of the courses hardest holes yesterday—was third-easiest on Sunday. Whitfield closed out strong by shooting par on each of the back-nine holes.
