Austin Peay (19-3, 8-1 OVC) used a 7-0 run in the first set to overcome an early stretch of back-and-forth play between the two teams and cruise to the win.
A 12-3 run in the second set achieved the same ends as the Governors again eased their way to a 2-0 lead.
Jacksonville State (11-11, 4-5 OVC) would find its legs out of the break while the Austin Peay offense would stall. The Gamecocks scored 13 kills while the Govs offense was held to six kills while committing eight errors to force a fourth set.
However, Austin Peay would bounce back with a wire-to-wire victory to claim the match.
Logan Carger led Austin Peay with 11 kills, a .579 attack percentage, a career-high tying six blocks, and six digs. Brook Moore battled through a rough patch in the third but still posted a team-high 14 kills. Five different Govs players recorded a block in the contest.
Addie Halverson paced Jacksonville State with 16 kills but was held to a .040 attack percentage.
Austin Peay, which regained the OVC lead after Morehead State fell at SIUE, will seek to solidify its spot atop the standings with a 2:00pm, Saturday contest against Tennessee Tech.
SET 1, Govs Win 25-19
The match got started with the two teams trading points early on, with five ties and a lead change through the first 12 points. Austin Peay used a quartet of blocks – Carger helping on three – in a crucial 7-0 run that broke the set open, 12-6. Jacksonville State would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
SET 2, Govs Win 25-15
SET 3, Gamecocks Win 25-14
Austin Peay zapped the drama out of the second set early with three 4-0 runs to build a 13-4 lead quickly. A later 5-1 run would extend the APSU lead to 11 points, 18-7, and they would not look back in an easy victory.
The Govs offense was grounded in the third set and Jacksonville State took advantage. After seven ties and three lead changes in the first 14 points, the Gamecocks used an extended 16-5 run to take control at 22-11 after a Halverson kill and did not look back.
SET 4, Govs Win 25-13
Austin Peay recovered quickly from the disappointment of the third frame, racing out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth. The Govs would close with power, scoring seven of the final nine points to clinch the victory.

The Block Party Continues
Austin Peay’s 14-block outing tied its season high set against Murray State, September 25th. However, it also was the fourth consecutive double-digit block outing by the Governors. Austin Peay is averaging 2.56 blocks per set over its last four matches. Senior Kaylee Taff has 18 blocks (1.06 per set) during the streak.
Unblemished At Home
The Governors remained unbeaten at the Dunn Center this season, improving to 7-0. Austin Peay has won its last 10 matches at home dating back to last season’s OVC Tournament sweep.
Carger’s Big Night
Logan Carger tied her career high with six blocks against the Gamecocks, equaling a six block outing against Murray State in 2016. She now has 37 blocks in her senior campaign, setting her single-season career high (31 in 2016). Her 11-kill effort also moved her five away from her single-season career high in that category.
