Malibu, CA – Lidia Yanes Garcia, of Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis team, won her quarterfinal in the Oracle ITA Masters, but fell in the semifinals of the consolation draw, Saturday, at Pepperdine University.
Yanes Garcia got her day underway with a match against Alabama State’s Reka Szentes.
Yanes Garcia made quick work of Szentes, defeating her in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Yanes Garcia’s semifinal was against a player who had not dropped a set in the consolation draw in Katarina Kozarov of Furman University.
Kozarov took the first set, 6-3, before Yanes Garcia battled back to win the second set, 7-5. However, Kozarov just outlasted Yanes Garcia in the third and final set, winning 7-6 after a tiebreaker.
Yanes Garcia, along with her teammates, return to action next weekend at the SMU Tournament in Dallas, Texas.
