Pawleys Island, SC – Freshmen led the way for Austin Peay State University women’s golf at the 2018 Golfweek Program Championship at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, which wrapped up Tuesday.
The Govs were led by freshman Taylor Dedmen , whose 221 (75-73-73) made her Austin Peay’s wire-to-wire leader and the only Gov to post a round in the 70s all three days.
She led Austin Peay with a 4.83 average on par-5 holes accounted for seven of the Governors tournament-low 19 birdies, tying for 19th overall in her first collegiate tournament.
Freshman Shelby Darnell recovered from a second-round 81 to shoot a final-round 73, placing 40th at 232 (77-81-74). Her 37 on the back-nine included a birdie on the 162-yard, par-3 No. 17—one of just 13 birdies made on that hole during the three-day event. She also averaged 3.13 shots/hole on par-3 attempts, second-best by a Gov behind Dedmen’s 3.07.
Senior Taylor Goodley joined Dedmen and Darnell in the 70s during Tuesday’s final round, carding a season-best 77 to post a 237 (79-81-77) overall. She sank 10 or more pars in all three rounds, including 10 in the final round; she shot one-under over her final six holes.
Speaking of strong finishes, senior Ashton Goodley was one-over on her final five holes, finishing at 249 (87-75-87). Sophomore Riley Cooper rounded out the Austin Peay lineup at 257 (86-85-86).
The Govs return to action next week at the Morehead State-hosted Greenbrier Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky, at Greenbrier Country Club.
