Brentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) sophomore quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall has been named the 2018 Media Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, the OVC announced today.
The voting is conducted by members of print, radio and television media who cover the OVC and its institutions.
Oatsvall enters the 2018 campaign with momentum after seizing the starting job halfway through the 2017 season and never looking back. He completed 80 of 141 passes for 1,148 yards and seven touchdowns, while adding 453 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Oatsvall set a school record with 8.1 yards per pass attempt, and finished with a 135.8 pass efficiency rating for the season, the second-best mark in Austin Peay history. In a road contest against American Athletic Conference and Peach Bowl champion Central Florida, he threw for a season-high 209 yards.
The postseason accolades poured in for Oatsvall, as the OVC tabbed him as its Freshman of the Year, and he earned All-OVC Second-Team and OVC All-Newcomer honors.

The Govs are coming off of one of the most dramatic turnarounds in FCS history after winning eight games in 2017. They finished 7-1 in OVC play and finished second in the conference, their best conference finish since tying for second in 1980.
Austin Peay is led by third-year head coach Will Healy, who earned the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award, as well as the OVC’s Roy Kidd Coach of the Year, last season.
Along with Oatsvall, the top four rushers from the nation’s sixth-ranked rushing offense return, as do key contributors along the offensive line. The defense returns 2017 First-Team All-OVC selections linebacker Gunnar Scholato and defensive end Jaison Williams, as well as some important pieces in the secondary.
The Govs open their season on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs, the reigning SEC Champions and national runner-up, on Saturday, September 1st at 2:30pm on ESPN.
