Phillips, the first Governors player invited to the event, advanced out of the first round with a 13-home run performance.
However, he could not keep pace with the prodigious totals put forth in the second round by eventual champion Nic Ready of Air Force and Clemson’s Logan Davidson, who each moved on to the final round. Still, it was an impressive performance put forth by Austin Peay’s returning first baseman.
Phillips now returns to the Cape Cod League’s Wareham Gatemen to complete the summer ball league campaign before returning the Clarksville in August.
