Tampa, FL – Austin Peay State University Track and Field head coach Doug Molnar was frank after the 2018 APSU Outdoor season came for an end for junior Savannah Amato at the NCAA East Preliminary.

“Devastated,” Molnar said. “The pole vault is such a fickle event. One bar you look great, the next one is tough. That’s just the nature of the beast, but it in no way reflects on the season Savannah had. Two school records, two more OVC Championships, another NCAA appearance—she had a great year. I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.”
Alas, a trip to Eugene was not to be for the Delaware, Ohio native, who finished tied for 32nd with a 3.78m (12-4.75) mark in her third consecutive regional appearance.
Amato cleared the opening height with ease, needing just one attempt to go over the bar at 3.78m. However, she was unable to clear 3.93m (12-10.75) in her subsequent three attempts, something that was not unique to her in this event; six other competitors in Flight One and nine overall cleared the first height on the first attempt but were unable to advance past the second stage.
As Molnar alluded to, Amato put together yet another stunning campaign. She, along with fellow regional competitor Tymeitha Tolbert, will be back to lead the Govs in the 2018-19 campaign.
