Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball and head coach Matt Figger have kicked off the spring signing period by bringing aboard guard Isaiah Hart, a Murfreesboro native recently of Motlow State Community College.
Hart was a destructive force for the Bucks last season, averaging a team-high 20.1 points on 45.8 percent from the floor (44.6 from three), with a team-best 5.3 assists and 3.4 steals per contest en route to all-conference honors.
He was named Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Region VII Tournament MVP after averaging 18.6 ppg, 3.7 apg and 3.3 spg in Motlow’s three tournament wins, propelling the Bucks to the NJCAA Tournament, setting school records in steals (225) and three-pointers (183) in the process.
Once in the tournament Hart shined even brighter, scoring 16 points in the opening round contest against Otero Junior College, hitting the game-winning bucket with six seconds left to move the Bucks into the second round.
He was a valued contributor for the Bucks as a freshman, averaging 13.0 ppg, 3.9 apg and 3.5 spg while maintaining a solid 45.0 percent shooting mark from the floor. In a triple-double performance in his freshman campaign against Gadsden, Hart broke a 43-year old Motlow record by recording 10 steals. He finished the campaign by earning NJCAA National Tournament all-tournament honors; the Bucks advanced to the quarterfinals, with Hart putting up 14.3 ppg and 2.3 spg to lead Motlow State to its first quarterfinal appearance in the national tournament.
In his final prep season, Hart led Blackman to the final four of the TSSAA Class AAA Tournament, scoring 16 against Maryville to lead the Blaze to the quarterfinals.
“Isaiah’s a winner,” said head coach Matt Figger. “He was a winner at Blackman and now he’s led his team to the National Junior College tournament two years in a row. He gives us more perimeter depth, he can play point or off the ball and he has a quick release. He can really shoot from the perimeter, which was something we lacked last year. He’s well coached and can make an immediate impact on our team.”
he addition of Hart signals the beginning of Austin Peay’s spring signing period. Check back at LetsGoPeay.com or on Twitter @AustinPeayMBB to learn more about Governor basketball signees as information becomes available.
