Brentwood, TN – Sophomore Austin Lancaster, of the Austin Peay State University has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week.
The Hendersonville native carded three-round, five-under par 211 (70-74-67) to tie for second at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate as the Governors picked up their first win under head coach Robbie Wilson.
He posted a career-best 67 in the final round, including four straight birdies on Holes 4-7—including one of just six birdies in the final round on Hole No. 4—as Austin Peay erased a 10-shot deficit to topple Toledo and take the tournament’s top spot.
The Governors have rounded into contending form the last few weeks, with a runner-up to open the spring at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor two weeks ago and the win Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale—Austin Peay’s first since 2014 and first outside of its home tournament and course since taking the 2013 Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate in Melbourne, Florida.
Lancaster is the second Governor in three weeks to earn OVC weekly honors, joining Michael Busse, who shared the February 21st award with Jacksonville State’s Jesus Dario Montenegro.
Lancaster and his Austin Peay teammates get back into competition at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, March 18th-19th, at Sevierville Golf Club.
