Clarksville, TN – With their place in the postseason secured, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team looks to finish the season strong with a midweek matchup 7:00pm, at SIU Edwardsville.

Austin Peay (15-12, 8-8 OVC) is jockeying for position in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, looking to maintain their sixth place bid with a win over the Cougars.
Last week the Govs played two one-point games, topping Tennessee Tech with a thrilling fourth quarter comeback that saw the Governors outscore the Golden Eagles 19-14 in the final period, before dropping a nail biter against Jacksonville State.
The Govs are looking for their first win on the road against SIU Edwardsville in the Midlick era. Austin Peay split the two meetings between the teams last year with a dominant 23-point win at home January 11, 2017 before dropping a close matchup with the Cougars February 15th, 2017.
The Governors are facing a Cougar squad that is currently third in the OVC standings, looking to break a two-game losing streak that knocked them off their second place pedestal. With both teams safely in OVC Tournament play, the focus is on finishing strong and securing a strong position to make a postseason push.
Austin Peay is 4-11 all time against SIU Edwardsville, with the Cougars winning the matchup earlier this season in Clarksville, 38-61.
Last Time Against SIUE
The Govs second leading scorer and leading rebounder, Keisha Gregory, did not play against SIUE, due to a shoulder injury.
Two Governors are currently averaging in double digits: Brianne Alexander (11.7) and Gregory (10.1).
Both of Austin Peay’s matchups last week were decided by one point, with the Govs topping Tennessee Tech 53-52 and falling to Jacksonville State 50-51. The Govs also had a one point game against Southeast Missouri at home 66-65, Jan. 6.
Attack the Paint
The Govs scored a combined 52 points in the paint against the Golden Eagles and the Gamecocks.
Arielle Gonzalez-Varner recorded her first two starts last week, pulling down seven rebounds against Tennessee Tech and eight rebounds against Jacksonville State.
