A who’s-who of area squads will compete in this meet; joining the Govs and Commodores will be student-athletes from Auburn, Belmont, Charleston Southern, Florida, Georgia Tech, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Trevecca and UTEP. Nearly 500 athletes are set to compete in the event.
This will be the third time in four meets the Govs have remained in the midstate area for a meet; Austin Peay opened the indoor campaign in this same facility at Vanderbilt’s Indoor Opener, Dec. 2, and spent last weekend at Tennessee State’s Ed Temple Classic.
For the Govs, sophomore Emmaculate Kiplagat looks for a repeat of her performance at last week’s Ed Temple Classic; after winning the mile and the 3000m runs at Tennessee State, she will run the 5000m this week.
The full quartet of Austin Peay pole vaulters will be in action this weekend; led by junior Savannah Amato and buoyed by the efforts of senior Gretchen Rosch, junior Dascha Hix and freshman Morgan Bradley, Austin Peay remains one of the area’s hubs of talent in the event.
The Govs will put a healthy dose of competitors into the 200m dash; among the 10 Austin Peay student-athletes slated to compete are sophomores Garielle Netter and Diamond Battle and freshman Lennex Walker, who has shown considerable promise during the early part of her Austin Peay career and also is scheduled to run in the 60m hurdles. The trio also will compete in the 60m dash.
The Govs will take a week off after this meet, returning to action the last weekend in January at the Thundering Herd Invitational, January 26th-27th, in Huntington, West Virginia.
