Clarksville, TN – In late October the finishing touches were put on the newest addition to Austin Peay State University’s recreation offerings with three beach volleyball courts located on the Winfield Dunn Center’s front lawn.
The new courts will be used by the Governors Beach Volleyball program, which will begin its second collegiate campaign next spring.

The beach volleyball courts were made possible through the cooperation of Austin Peay’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department and University Recreation Office. The facility is located near the corner of Marion and Drane Streets.
Austin Peay University Recreation will manage usage of the beach volleyball courts with priority reservations given to athletics (especially during beach volleyball season) and University Recreation. Otherwise, courts will be open to the APSU community and possibly the Clarksville community for rental opportunities.
“It’s been my vision since I arrived (at Austin Peay) in 2003 to offer as many opportunities as possible for students to enjoy life that revolves around recreation,” said David Davenport, Director of University Recreation. “The beach volleyball courts will enhance our student’s perspective of recreation, fitness and wellness in a community that desires more volleyball opportunities. I would like to thank the athletics department, particularly Taylor Mott and Ryan Ivey, for allowing University Recreation to be part of such an impactful and meaningful opportunity.”
The newest facility will have seating for more than 300 Governors fans thanks to the hillside located next to the courts. It also will serve as the home courts for the Governors beach volleyball program, which will enter its second season in 2018.
“I am thrilled the beach courts have finally been completed,” said Governors head coach Taylor Mott. “It has been a journey but I believe the beautiful beach courts facility is an incredible addition to our program and to student life on campus. I want to thank President White, Ryan Ivey, David Davenport and Wes Powell for all having a part in getting this project completed.”
Southland Construction completed the work on the new facility with the assistance of University Facilities Office of Landscapes and Grounds.
