Greenwood, IN – Austin Peay State University sophomore outside hitter Cecily Gable and sophomore setter Kristen Stucker have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ 3 Volleyball team, Thursday, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Gable, of Memphis, Tennessee, is a nursing major with a 3.97 grade-point average. She was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll last season after being named twice to Austin Peay’s Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll.
On the court, Gable is the Govs third leading hitter this season, averaging 2.53 kills per set. She was named the OVC’s Offensive Player of the Week, Sept. 19, after earning “Most Valuable Player” honors at The Citadel tournament.
Stucker, of Johnston, Iowa, is a biology major with an unblemished 4.00 grade-point average. She received the OVC’s Academic Medal of Honor and was named to the league’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll last summer. Stucker was named to Austin Peay’s President’s List, Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll in both semesters of her freshman year.
The sophomore setter has made marked strides in that role this season, ranking second among all Division I setters with 1,126 assists and leading the league with 10.33 assists per set (71st nationally). Behind her performance, the Govs own an OVC best .223 attack percentage and lead the conference in total kills (1,439).
The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
