Junior Hunter Tidwell [2], playing as the No. fired an even-par 71 over the first 18 to find himself tied for sixth entering the final round; meanwhile, freshman Austin Lancaster [3] was one shot behind with a one-over 72, sitting just outside the top-10 in 11th.

The day was not as kind for the other three Governors in the lineup. Senior Erik Hedberg [4] (79) is tied for 44th, with sophomore Sean Butscher [5] (81; t-49) and junior Justin Arens [6] (82; t-55) not too far behind him.

“I think the stats show that outside of Lancaster, we didn’t hit the ball well at all today,” said head coach Robbie Wilson [7]. “Even Hunter missed a lot of shots but he made the most of it thanks to a really good short game. Tomorrow, we want to hit more greens, be patient and end the fall on a good round.”

Host Western Carolina (278) leads the tournament, followed by Eastern Kentucky (290), Elon (292), High Points (292), Brevard (294) and South Carolina Beaufort (300) in the top five; the Govs are three shots outside the top-five thanks to an opening-round 303.

Freshman Alex Vegh [8] equaled Hedberg with an opening-round 79 as an individual; meanwhile, freshman Michael Busse [9] (80, t-41) and sophomore Sam Lopez [10] (83, t-57) opened their stint as individuals at the Trevecca Men’s Invitational.

Action from Sapphire Valley begins 10:25am (ET), with the Governors going off Hole No. 10, paired with Cardinal Stritch and Southern Wesleyan.
