Clarksville, TN – After a record-breaking opening weekend, Austin Peay State University women’s golf gets back to work Monday at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State at the Players Club in Yorktown, IN.
This will be the Govs first trip to Ball State’s fall tournament since 2006, and it comes on the heels of a 54-hole 915 (306-306-303) at last week’s Drake Creek Invitational that shattered its previous 54-hole best at last season’s Ohio Valley Conference Championship.

The Cardinal Classic will be played on a par-72, 6,164-yard course, with an 8:30am shotgun start preceding 36 holes on Monday. Tuesday’s final round begins with a 9:00am shotgun start.
“I am excited to get back to The Players Club,” said head coach Sara Robson. “It has been a number of years since we have played in Yorktown but the girls will love this golf course.”
Last week, the Govs had all five countable athletes record rounds in the 70s in two of three rounds after having found all five players in the 70s in just four total rounds in 2015-16. Sophomore Taylor Goodley earned her fourth career top-10 finish, placing ninth with a 223 (76-74-73).
Sophomore Ashton Goodley, senior Morgan Kauffman and junior AnnaMichelle Moore will be back in the lineup this week and are joined by senior Kelsey Schutt, who was the Governors top individual finisher a week ago.
“We are hitting the ball well, hitting fairways and greens and that will need to continue for us to be successful this week,” Robson said. “However, short game will play a huge role in how successful we are this week. We took our two days of practice this week and stressed short putts as well as up and downs. Excited to see how we continue to improve and play well this week.”
A loaded field awaits the Governors this week. In addition to host Ball State, the Govs will face athletes from Bowling Green, Bradley, Central Michigan, Dayton, Drake, IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Toledo, Western Illinois and Western Michigan, along with OVC foe Eastern Kentucky.
Following the Cardinal Classic, the Governors will take a week off before participating in the Saluki Shoot-Out, October 3rd-4th, in Cape Girardeau, MO.
