Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s women’s tennis team clashed with the Belmont Bruins, Saturday, at the Governors Tennis Center and pulled out their fifth Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.
The Govs (6-9, 5-4 OVC) had a rough start to the match, dropping two matches to give Belmont (2-14, 0-8 OVC).
Similarly, Isabela Jovanovic  and Hannah Tatlock  played and were defeated by Mical Johnson and Suzanna Stapler, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles match between Austin Peay’s Claudia Yanes Garcia  and Brittney Covington , and Belmont’s Abbie Mather and Laura Van Eeckhoudt was unfinished.
However, Austin Peay gained momentum from Lidia Yanes Garcia ‘s singles victory against Lindsey Whitehead, 6-2, 6-1. Gaining wins in the second, third, and fourth spots, the Govs increased their lead to 4-1 to clinch the win. Claudia Yanes Garcia  overwhelmed Laura Van Eeckhoudt with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Likewise, Helena Kuppig  and Hannah Tatlock  defeated Kendall Warren and Suzanna Stapler, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, respectively.
In the fifth and sixth spots, however, Brittney Covington  and Isabela Jovanovic  were unsuccessful in their matches against Abbie Mather and Maddie Gilley, 6-3, 1-1, def. and 6-3, 6-1 making the final score of the match Austin Peay 4, Belmont 3.
Austin Peay will travel to Jacksonville State, 10:00pm, Saturday, for its regular season finale.
