Murray, KY – Looking to carry momentum into the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will conclude the 2015-16 regular season when it participates in the Jan Weaver Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
The two-day, 54-hole event will see 36 holes played on the par-72, 6,017-yard layout, Friday, and the final 18 Saturday.

This will be APSU’s last tournament in preparation for the 2016 OVC Championships, set for Monday-Wednesday, April 18th-20th, at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
In addition to host Murray State and APSU, fellow OVC schools Belmont, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State will be competing along with SIU Carbondale, Akron, Xavier, Omaha and Alabama State.
The Lady Govs team will be comprised of senior leader Jessica Cathey; two juniors, Morgan Kauffman and Amber Bosworth, and twin freshmen Taylor and Ashton Goodley. Sophomores AnnaMichelle Moore and Sarah Beth Struble along with juniors Morgan Gardner and Kelsey Schutt will play as individuals.
“There is a great field in Murray this week and we are looking forward to playing Miller Golf Course again,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We are looking forward to a great event as it is our last regular season event.
“The girls are playing well and we are looking for the top five to step up and finish their rounds. We have spent the last few days really focusing on 50 yards and in and short putts. We have been really close to playing very well and just need to minimize the shots where we lose focus and make unnecessary errors.”
This is the second time APSU has played on the course just this season. Last fall Murray State’s tourney was moved from Paducah’s Drake Creek Golf Club to Miller because of course conditions.
In particular, Cathey should be looking forward to returning. The APSU senior, who leads APSU in scoring average (76.55) and winning percentage (75 percent) incurred her season’s worst performance—it included her only round this season not counted in the team score—and will be seeking to redeem herself.
“We played Miller Golf Course in the fall so that should help with comfort level and knowing where to hit shots,” Robson said. “We will spend the practice round coming up with the correct game plan for each hole. Keys to playing well will be to execute our game plan for each hole and to stay focused for 54 holes.”
