Gainesville, FL – Austin Peay State University faced some of the nation’s best at the Florida Relays, putting the Governors squarely in the national spotlight at one of the Southeast’s premiere events.
Senior Kymmalett Ross kicked things off for the Govs Thursday; the Northwest High School product placed 39th with a 24.32 mark out of 65 competitors. It would equal the region’s 63rd-best 200m mark entering weekend competition, and in a field featuring six of the region’s top 35 competitors.

Junior Myiah Johnson‘s 14.14 in the 100m hurdles placed her 48th in the 64-runner field, and has her ahead of the pace she’s established the last few seasons; previously, the earliest in outdoor season she had posted a sub-14.15 mark was April 11th, at last season’s Hilltopper Relays.
In field action, junior Chancis Jones posted a 15th-place finish in the long jump invitational event, hitting 5.67m (18-7.25) in the event. Jones’ counterpart, Kaylnn Pitts, made the trip but was held out due to lingering injury concerns.
The Govs closed out their stay in Florida with solid 400m efforts from Terri Morris and Breigh Jones. Morris led the way at 55.58 (35th), while Jones continues to work her way back from injury; she posted a 56.36 in her first 400m outing of outdoor season to finish 44th.
While Molnar had his contingent in Florida, Savannah Amato and Dascha Hix were competing in the pole vault at Murray State’s Margaret Simmons Invitational. Results from that meet were not known at press time; this post will be updated to reflect the results once they have been received.
The entire squad will be back together next weekend at the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky.
