Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will attempt to build on its season’s first victory when it plays host to Oakland City, 7:00pm, Wednesday in a pre-Thanksgiving matchup in Dave Aaron Arena.
The Governors are coming off a 91-76 victory against Northern Colorado to end the Maui Invitational Regional round.
Not only was it the Govs’ first victory but they as well got the other monkey off their back with that win being one of the road variety.
The 91 points were the most by the Govs since they beat NAIA foe Dalton State, 93-57, December 20th, 2013. It was the first time APSU scored 90 points against a Division I foe since downing UT Martin, 91-58, to end the 2012-13 season. The Govs shot an impressive 61 percent (14 of 23) in the first half and 65 percent (17 of 26) in the second half for an overall 63 percent effort.
The well-balanced Governors placed five players in double figures—Josh Robinson and Khalil Davis with 17 points apiece, Chris Horton and Kenny Jones with 15 and reserve guard John Murry with 11. Murry led an off-the-bench effort that netted 20 points.
Meanwhile, Horton averaged 17 points per game in four games along with 10.8 rebounds. Most impressive was his 70 percent shooting during the week, including 10-of-12 in Colorado.
Oakland City comes in at 2-0 and is averaging 81.0 points per outing with four Mighty Oaks averaging in double figures. Matt Lucas leads the way, averaging 23.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Jonathan Sulak is at 20.5 ppg while Byron Dullin is averaging 12.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per outing. In addition, Addision Wagler is at 15 points and 8 rebounds per contest.
