Nine-time defending champion Eastern Kentucky again was picked to win outright this year for its 10th-straight title, receiving 11 first-place votes for a total of 121 points. Eastern Illinois came in second with 97 points, followed by Belmont (91), Tennessee Tech (85), SIUE (83), Morehead State (81), and Southeast Missouri (72).
APSU coach Doug Molnar is not putting much stock in the preseason polls. “I think we’re going to be better than that,” Molnar said. “No, I know we’re going to be better than that.
“We have two returning MVPs (Martin Reiman was the 2013 team MVP before missing last season with a broken toe while Daniel Hamm was the 2014 team MVP) on the men’s side. I think we’ve added a lot of depth with two or three freshman who are going to make an impact.”
The Govs and Lady Govs begin the 2015 season Saturday, September 5th, at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic. They again will serve as host to Austin Peay’s Cross Country Festival, Saturday, Sept. 26th, Hilldale Baptist Family Life Center Cross Country Course. The regular season will conclude, October 31st, with the 2015 OVC Championships in Murray, KY.
