Middle Tennessee (16-10) sits atop the Conference USA standings after three weekends with an 8-1 mark following a three-game sweep of Old Dominion last weekend. Outfielder Ronnie Jebavy was named C-USA’s Hitter of the Week after batting .500 (6-of-12) against Old Dominion and posting two hits against both Vanderbilt and Lipscomb.
Tuesday’s matchup with Austin Peay will conclude a six-game homestand for the Blue Raiders, who are 3-2 during the stand to date.
Govs right-hander Jared Carkuff will get the start for Tuesday’s outing, his first midweek start this season after compiling seven weekend starts. He brings a 3-3 record and 4.58 earned-run average into the meeting with Middle Tennessee. Carkuff started the Govs Saturday contest against Tennessee Tech but did not make it out of the second inning.
The Blue Raiders will counter with left-hander Tyler Troutt, who will be making his season’s third start and has a 0-1 record and 4.05 ERA. He started the Blue Raiders contest against Vanderbilt last Tuesday, holding the nationally-ranked Commodores to two runs in five innings. Vanderbilt would rally to win that contest by a 12-7 margin courtesy a seven-run eighth inning.
