APSU Lady Govs fall to Colonels in OVC play

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, still in search of its first Ohio Valley Conference victory, dropped a 5-0 decision to Eastern Kentucky, Saturday, at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.

As a result of cold weather and time constraints moving the match indoors, singles matches were played first and doubles matches were bypassed because EKU clinched the match victory in singles action.

With the loss, the Lady Govs fall to 2-15 overall, with a 0-7 mark in the OVC. EKU improves to 9-6 overall, with a 4-1 OVC record.

In singles action, the Lady Govs were led by senior Ornella Di Salvo [2] and sophomore Isabela Jovanovic [3]. Di Salvo battled back after dropping the first set before eventually falling 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to Amadine Faouzi while Jovanovic also forced a third set before losing to Melissa Gerritsen 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 at No. 5.

In other singles matches, freshman Brittney Covington [4] dropped a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 decision to Marcela Jimenez at No. 4, while senior Jovana Karac [5] held a 6-4, 2-1 lead when her match against Raquel Montalvo at No. 6 was halted due to EKU clinching the match victory.

The Lady Govs return to action with a 2:00pm, Thursday, contest against OVC foe Belmont at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
