Austin Peay Lady Govs to face Skyhawks in weekend OVC road series

Clarksville, TN – Coming off a sweep of 20-win Samford in a midweek home doubleheader, Austin Peay State University’s softball team hits the road this weekend for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at UT Martin.
The Lady Govs (5-17, 2-5 OVC) will open the series versus the Skyhawks with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader at Bettye Giles Field and conclude with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

Offensively, Austin Peay is led by Christiana Gable (.343/6 HR/23 RBI), Laurel Burroughs (.333/4 HR/14 RBI) and Niya Sparks (.315/5 HR/12 RBI), who have been at or above .300 this season.
But of late the Lady Govs have seen several other players who greatly have picked up the pace offensively.
Chandler Groves has been more than a sparkplug in the leadoff spot, hitting at a .350 clip over the last six games, scoring nine runs and driving in 11—she had two home runs and nine 9 RBI in Wednesday’s doubleheader; while Courtney Brower (.429), Rikki Arkansas (.400) and Mel Pavel (.368) have hit more than .350 over that same stretch of contests.
In the circle, Natalie Ayala (2-6, 7.97 ERA, 12 K’s) leads the APSU pitching staff, with Sidney Hooper (1-3, 7.40 ERA, 8 K’s), Allie Blackwood (1-3, 8.61 ERA, 16 K’s) and Heather Norris (1-4, 8.78 ERA, 11 K’s) all picking up their season’s first pitching wins this past week.
Tennessee Martin (14-14, 2-4 OVC) is led offensively by the one-two punch of Kenzi Tate (.379, 5 HR/23 RBI) and Carly Gonzales (.378/5 HR.23 RBI).
In the circle, Elizabeth Wiegand (7-5, 2.77 ERA, 31 K’s) has been the workhorse for the Skyhawks’ pitching staff.
