Howey-In-The-Hills, FL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team struggles continued on the final day of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, Sunday, shooting a final-round 309 to end the three-day event with a 926 and an 11th-place finish.
Virginia Tech repeated as champ, shooting a final-round 284 to end at 3-under 861, easily outdistancing East Carolina (883) in the 18-team field, at El Campeón Course at the historic Mission Inn Resort and Spa.
Again it was big numbers hurting the Govs Sunday while not producing enough birdies. The Governors had eight double bogeys, the same number of birdies. On Sunday it was senior Tucker Wallace producing the Govs best score, a 4-over 76. The senior from Dickson Tennessee avoided big numbers—he had four bogeys—but failed to collect a birdie. He finished at 233 overall.
Austin Kramer had a pair of birdies but just as many double bogeys in finishing at 78, dropping him from 14th to a 25th-place tie after his 77 left him at 226. Kramer lost a couple of places on the final hole with a double bogey, dropping him from a Top 20 conclusion.
Juniors Chris Baker and Tyler Phillips came in with 78s. Baker was APSU’s second-best finisher at 232 (t44th) while Phillips was 237. Freshman Justin Arens ended with an 80, finishing at 238.
