Bearden’s Double-Double Leads Lady Wildcats Past Lady Patriots, 46-40, On Senior Night

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Haley Bearden made a definite statement on her last night at home for the regular season. On Senior Night at Clarksville High, Bearden led her team with a double-double, past the tenacious Henry County Lady Patriots, 46-40.

Bearden finished the game with 16 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks. Although she led the team with her 16 points, it was her clutch rebounding in the last minutes of the game that kept her team ahead of the Lady Patriots.

Bearden’s last two points came from the free throw line, giving the Lady Wildcats a 43-38 lead with just over three minutes left in the game. With just under two minutes, Henry County’s Ashley Martin scored in the paint to make the score 43-40.

In the waning last 90 seconds of the game, the Lady Patriots fouled the Lady Wildcats attempting to close the gap with possible two for one scenarios. The strategy worked half way.

The Lady Wildcats shot only 3-of-14 from the free throw line in the last 90 seconds of the game.

However, the Lady Patriots could not capitalize on the misses because Bearden kept grabbing the rebounds. The few times Bearden did not come down with the ball, her teammate LaPrasha Fair was there. Martin’s two points ended up being the last points for the Lady Patriots.

The Lady Wildcats ended up out-rebounding the Lady Patriots 38-27. In the final quarter they made only two field goals and shot 7-of-18 from the free throw line.

Bearden scored six of her 16 points in the last quarter. She led six Lady Wildcat scorers. J.K. Cummings scored 10 points and Ellie Treanton added nine. Fair grabbed seven rebounds to go with her seven points.

The Lady Patriots kept pace with the Lady Wildcats through most of the game. They led the Lady Wildcats 26-24 at halftime. An offensive lapse in the third quarter let the Lady Wildcats take over the game.

The Lady Patriots made just one field goal and one free throw in the third quarter. By the beginning of the fourth they trailed the Lady Wildcats 35-29, but that lead dwindled quickly. Lady Patriot Gracie Osbron opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer.

With 6:28 on the clock in the fourth, Rebekah Craig tied the score at 38. The score was tied one more time before Bearden made her last free throws to make the score 43-38.

Craig led the Lady Patriots with 16 points. She was one of seven Lady Patriot scorers. Osbron finished the game with eight points and Celie Hudson scored six.

The Lady Wildcats finished the season with a five game win streak. The final win against the Lady Patriots secured the second seed in next week’s District 10-AAA Tournament. The Lady Patriots will be the third seed.
