West Creek would cut the Wildcats lead back to four points after an old-fashioned three-point play by A.J. Robinson, with 1:01 left, but that would be as close as the Coyotes would get the rest of the way, as the Wildcats closed out the game by hitting six of eight free throw attempts over the final 21 seconds – including two coming on a technical foul on Robinson – for the 69-59 final.
In the first half, the two teams would go back-and-fourth early-on, as the two teams traded the lead back-and-fourth eight times in the first period before Clarksville High came away with an 18-14 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.
The Wildcats would continue to add to its lead in the second quarter, getting out to as many as a 12-point lead 36-24, following two free throws by Tariq Silver, with 2:04 left before intermission.
Silver finished with 12 points.
But West Creek was able to cut into the deficit before halftime, scoring five of the final seven points of the first half, to trail Clarksville High 38-29 at intermission.
That final little offensive spurt by the Coyotes at the end of the first half carried over into the third quarter for West Creek, as they scored 14 of the first 16 points of the second half to take its first lead since the first quarter, 43-30, with 4:00 minutes left in the period.
A three by Teal Young would start a 7-0 run by Clarksville High, as the Wildcats retook the lead 47-43, with 2:04 left in the third quarter.
Young would lead all scorers with 19 points.
West Creek would answer with a 5-0 run to retake the lead 48-47, with 49 seconds left, but a final bucket by Jones in the final 30 seconds for CHS gave the Wildcats a 49-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
