Two players came up big for the Lady Royals in the final period. Briana Smith and Molly Kafader combined for 11 of the Lady Royals 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Smith led all scorers with 22 points. As point guard she was equally impressive distributing the ball and attacking the basket to score herself. It was during one of her aggressive moves to the basket at the beginning of the fourth quarter that changed the momentum of the game.

The Lady Hawks were called for two fouls as Smith drove to the basket, the second a flagrant foul. Smith made one free throw for the first foul. Then, Kafader made two more for the technical, giving the Lady Royals a 33-28 lead.

After Haley Croom made a layup for the Lady Hawks, Kafader scored five straight points in a Lady Royal 7-0 run. Five turnovers kept the Lady Hawks from gaining any of the ground lost in the run. The only points they produced besides Croom’s layup was two free throws made by Jemiah Harrison.

Kafader finished the game with 11 points. Jordan Majors scored just six points, but made her presence felt in the paint with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

When the Lady Hawks were able to feed the post, they found success with Harrison. She led the team with nine points, six rebounds and two blocks.

Harrison was one of seven Lady Hawks to score. Liz Quino, Karlee Pace and Haley Croom all scored five points.

The Lady Royals shot 10-of-22 from the free throw line, including 5-of-8 in the last quarter. The Lady Hawks committed 15 total turnovers and shot 9-of-14 from the foul line.

The Lady Royals will open day 2 of the Christmas Classic against a high powered Dyer County team Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. The Lady Hawks will try to avoid a second loss against CPA Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m.
