His base knock in the first inning gave the Black Team an early lead, and they didn’t look back en route to claiming the series, 2-0.
Freshman left-hander Zach Neff earned the win for the Black Team, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in his four innings of work. His team gave him eight runs of support while on the mound before handing the ball off to Zach Walton in the fifth. Sophomore Levi Primasing took the loss for the Red Team after pitching two and two-thirds innings.
Along with Gleason, Griffin Ganick also had four hits, all coming in his final four at-bats, which led to three RBIs and a run scored.
It wasn’t until the third inning before the Red side crossed the plate, with Clayton Smithson driving in Josh Wilson with a single to right field. It led to a three-run inning, and they later scored another three in the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-6. Two Red players came across on a throwing error, while Wesley Purcell followed with an RBI groundout.
Purcell went 2-for-4 on the night, while Patrick Massoni drove home two runs with a double in the third.
In the sixth, the Black Team pulled away by scoring four runs in the frame, beginning with an RBI triple by Chase Hamilton. After another five hits in the inning came, the lead was suddenly widened to 13-6. As a result, the game was ended early on the frigid evening.
Despite the Black Squad already winning the series, the Govs will complete the three-game set on Saturday. First pitch from Raymond C. Hand Park will be at 12:30pm.
