        Austin Peay Sports Information

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Twin sisters Taylor and Ashton Goodley, a pair of three-time Class 1A Illinois All-State golfers who led their Eldorado High School team to a state runner-up finish this fall, have signed letters of intent to play for Austin Peay State University.

The pair shared the Southern Illinoisan Co-Golfer of the Year honor this fall after leading Eldorado to the conference, sectional and regional championships.

Taylor shot a 67 in regional play at West Frankfort while sister Ashton led the way with a 71 in sectional competition at Ziegler.

In state championship play at the Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, IL, Taylor shot a 10-over 154, including an eagle on the final day, to finish tied for third overall while Aston tied for seventh two shots back at 156 as Eldorado fell three strokes shy of Belleville Althoff for the title.

Overall in three state tournament appearances Ashton finished third, ninth and seventh while Taylor was 10th, sixth and third.

“We are very excited to have Ashton and Taylor join our program,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “It has been a great joy getting to know them and their family.

“These girls have a lot of experience, play very determined on the golf course and will be excellent team players. Taylor’s short game often helps save her while Ashton can frequently be seen throwing darts with her irons. They have very sound fundamentals and have good mental games.”

Between the two of them they recorded 17 first-place finishes—Ashton was conference medalist three times and won the Mount Carmel Invite four times while Taylor was three-time regional champion, one-time sectional champion.

Both Goodleys have compiled nine-hole 32-stroke scores. Taylor’s 2014 averages were 35 (9 holes) and 72 (18 holes) while Ashton’s was 36 (9 holes) and 74 (18 holes). Taylor won the 2014 West Kentucky Golf Showcase while her sister finished second.

The pair’s exploits extend beyond the golf course. Ashton was captain of the 2011 National Champion Cheer team while Taylor was an all-conference basketball player. They both were selected to the Southern Illinoisan All-Academic team while being two-year members of the National Honor Society.

“They have their priorities straight; work hard in the classroom and get things done and then head to the course and give 110 percent every day.” Robson said. “I look for Ashton and Taylor to come in and make an immediate impact on our program.”
