Clarksville, TN – One last tuneup awaits Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team as it prepares to host Martin Methodist in a 2:00pm, Sunday exhibition contest at the Dunn Center.
Austin Peay won its exhibition opener against St. Catharine, 92-45, November 1st. It was a game that saw 13 Lady Govs gain playing time with 11 scoring.

Sophomore Beth Rates led Austin Peay with 16 points in that exhibition outing. Sophomore Tearra Banks finished with an 11-point, 11-rebound double double.
“I’m looking forward to another opportunity to go up against another opponent other than ourselves,” said head coach Carrie Daniels. “This is our last game-like preparation before we open the regular season Friday. We have stressed defense and rebounding from the beginning and it will be a priority Sunday.”
Austin Peay faced Martin Methodist in its lone exhibition last season, winning a 94-44 contest. Senior Kristen Stainback scored 23 points in that affair, making 8-of-13 from the floor. The Lady Govs converted over 50 percent of their shots in the matchup while holding the Redhawks to 25 percent shooting.
“Martin Methodist has a new coach so I believe we’re going to see a little different look than last year,” said Daniels. “However, they are coming off a great season and their returners should bring a lot of confidence. They have nothing to lose and teams like that can be scary.”
Martin Methodist is off to a 3-1 start in NAIA action this season. The Redhawks opened with three straight wins before falling to NAIA No. 2 Freed-Hardeman, 75-48, November 1st. Martin Methodist faced Middle Tennessee in a November 6th exhibition, falling 93-44.
Junior guard Nina Mills leads the Redhawks with 13.8 points per game. Junior guard Haley Rutledge has not started yet this season but is second on the team with 11.3 points per game.
