Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team returns home for its only home match of the fall, noon, Friday, against North Alabama at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts. The schedule calls for one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles play.
The weekend sees the Govs reunited after seniors Iago Seffrin and Aleksas Tverijonas traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to compete in the 2014 St. Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships. Both went 0-2 on the weekend.
North Alabama, which recorded a 7-12 record last spring, are led by senior Guillaume Dechoz and sophomore Max Druppel. Dechoz went 7-9 in singles play, primarily at the No. 2 position and 10-7 in doubles with two different partners at No. 1, while Druppel went 8-8 on the spring playing mostly at No. 3.
Among the players returning to action this week are sophomores James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro. Mitchell has earned a 2-1 record at the Dale Short Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee, teaming with Tverijonas, while Montenegro recorded a 2-1 mark in singles play at the same tournament.
“Manuel played extremely well the other week,” said head coach Ross Brown. “I’m also looking forward to seeing James (Mitchell) play this Friday. We are coming along well this fall, and this will be a great opportunity to build on some things before regionals.”
The Govs will have a week away from competition before traveling to Nashville, for the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament. The four-day event will begin on Thursday, October 16th.
