Nashville, Tn – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team begins its quest for a national championship this Friday through Sunday in the first stage of the NCAA Championship in Hutchison, Kansas, at the Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Commodores will be making their first appearance at the national championship since 2007.
Fifty-four holes of stroke play take place over the weekend, with 18 holes played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and the top eight teams advancing to an exciting match play format, which occurs on Tuesday (quarterfinals and semifinals) and Wednesday (finals). The top 40 individuals from the 54-hole competition will play for the individual national championship on Monday.
“This is a very exciting time of the year,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “This is what these guys have worked for all year for this opportunity in this championship. From the beginning, we talked about playing for championships and this week our team gets that opportunity.”

The Commodores qualified for the tournament after finishing in third at the NCAA San Antonio Regional last week. Junior Hunter Stewart led the Vanderbilt effort in San Antonio, finishing in fourth place, while senior Charlie Ewing finished in a tie for fifth.
Stewart and Ewing will represent Vanderbilt this week at Prairie Dunes, along with juniors Ben Fogler and Jordan Janico, and sophomore Carson Jacobs.
“We want to continue to build off the momentum we got last weekend in San Antonio and take that same competitive character into how we play this week,” said Limbaugh. “When we are excited and enthusiastic, our talent takes over. My message to the team has been, are you satisfied with just getting here or are you going to make the most of this opportunity? We have to continue to focus to do the simple things correctly and have fun.”
Vanderbilt will tee off at 2:00pm CT with Oklahoma and LSU on Friday off of the 10th tee, and at 8:40am on Saturday off of the number one tee.
