Clarksville, TN – My brain has done it’s weightlifting by figuring out my taxes. Now, it is time for some cardio. Here are my Fourthoughts for this week.
Lady Coyotes Hang Tough
The Tennessee Softball Coaches Association Tournament concluded Saturday, April 12th. The fields at the Heritage Sports Complex were filled with 26 competing softball teams, including eight local teams.
After pool play on Friday, the teams began their journey to the championship games at 8:00am. Saturday morning. Over 12 hours later, the West Creek Lady Coyotes were one of two teams left playing.

The Lady Coyotes were ultimately overpowered by the Collinwood Trojanettes in the silver bracket championship game. However, they should get credit for being the last local team standing.
They were one of the teams to start the day playing at 8:00am and had to play three games before competing in the championship game, which commenced less than 30 minutes after they won their third game.
Way to battle ladies.
Tough Year For Tennessee Pro Teams Fans
First, the Titans finish the 2013 season below .500 and fail to make the playoffs. Next, the Predators failed to make the playoffs and just announced they are not extending the contract to 15-year head coach Barry Trotz.
Now, with two games left in the regular season, the Grizzlies are battling for the last playoff spot. It could be strike three.
Maybe fans will get lucky and the Grizzlies will get the eight spot and go on to lose in the first round against the top seeded Spurs. Although the only luck Tennessee pro sport teams have had this past year is bad.
At least you still have Music City, Graceland, Dollywood and Jack Daniels Whiskey…
WNBA in Tennessee
The WNBA held their 18th draft Monday, April 14th. Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike was drafted first overall by the Connecticut Sun. She will become the 7th active WNBA player from Stanford.
Not including this year’s draft class, Uconn has the most alumni actively playing in the WNBA. That makes sense when you consider they just won their ninth NCAA Title. Following the logic, it is equally unsurprising that Connecticut has a WNBA franchise, despite not having a NBA franchise.
Meighan Simmons was drafted 26th overall to the New York Liberty. She became the 13th active WNBA player from the University of Tennessee, joining some of the most well known WNBA names like Candace Parker, Kara Lawson and Tamika Catchings.
The Lady Vols are second only to the Uconn Lady Huskies in active playing alumni. Yet, Tennessee, which has a pro football, hockey and NBA franchise, plus is home to the legendary coach who pioneered women’s basketball, Pat Summitt, does not have a WNBA franchise.
Ironic or sad? I vote sad.
No One Can Resist Waffle House Hash Browns
Pro golfer Bubba Watson etched his name in pro golf history Sunday when he won the Masters for the second time in three years. Along with his second green jacket, he earned $1.62 million.
It was reported Watson tweeted a picture from a Waffle House the following Monday morning with the tweet: Champ dinner @WaffleHouse! #hash browns #covered
The tweet was retweeted over 10,ooo times.
A lot of analyst attribute Watson’s choice for breakfast to his endearing, down-to-earth character. I think it just proves what everyone already knows- no one can resist waffle house hash browns. Covered, smothered, dice, chunked…taste of heaven.
