Clarksville, TN – It was another rough Sunday afternoon for Austin Peay State University’s baseball team as it suffered a 19-7 Ohio Valley Conference loss to Southeast Missouri at Raymond C. Hand Park. The league-leading Redhawks won the three-game OVC set, 2-1.
For the second consecutive weekend, Austin Peay (14-22, 6-9 OVC) saw an opponent score early and often.

The Govs did keep pace early, scoring four runs in the first inning to claim a 4-2 lead. However, a two-run second inning only saw the Govs cut their deficit, trailing 8-6 after two. Austin Peay’s offense then was held to one run over the final seven innings.
Southeast Missouri (24-11, 15-3 OVC) struck for 14 runs in the game’s first four innings. The Redhawks scored six runs in the second and tacked on three runs in both the third and fourth innings to build a comfortable 14-6 lead.
Southeast Missouri starter Travis Hayes (5-0) battled through his rough start and ultimately went seven innings for the victory. He allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks but struck out six batters. Reliever Brady Wright held the Govs scoreless over the final two innings.
Austin Peay starter Levi Primasing (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Austin Peay used six pitchers in the contest. Reliever Jake Corum tossed a scoreless fifth inning and reliever Shane Lantigua added a scoreless eighth, but all six relievers surrendered at least one run.
First baseman Matt Tellor led Southeast Missouri with a 5-for-6, five RBI outing that included a RBI double in the second and a two-run double in the fourth. The Redhawks finished with 20 hits and were aided by nine walks surrendered by APSU pitching.
Austin Peay left fielder Cayce Bredlau went 3-for-5 and scored twice. First baseman Dre Gleason was 1-for-2 with a RBI and had the Govs lone extra-base hit – a leadoff double in the fifth inning.
The Govs begin a four-game road trip when they meet Southern Illinois in a 6:00pm, Wednesday contest.
