Bowling Green, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team sits in second place after Day 1 of the inaugural WKU Lady Topper Classic, Monday, at the Bowling Green Country Club. Despite that first-day the talk was about a Lady Gov playing as an individual.
During the second round, freshman Amber Bosworth, using a 5-iron, recorded her first career hole-in-one on the par 3, 144-yard No. 7 hole en route to a 77. The Southlake, Texas tallied a par 3 in Round 1 on the same hole. She is the second Lady Gov freshman in as many years to tally a hole-in-one. Jessica Cathey achieved one in the Ohio Valley Conference at GreyStone Golf Club last spring.
As a team, the Lady Govs shot a 316-321 (637) and is a distant second behind host Western Kentucky, which shot a two-round 608 (305-303). The 54-hole event will conclude Tuesday on the par-72, 6,027-yard layout.
Dayton is five strokes behind APSU at 642 while Northern Kentucky ended the opening day at 644.
The Lady Govs had five sub-80 rounds during the day, three in the first round and two in the second. Senior Rachel Deaton shot a 77-79, her 156 tying her for eight place overall.
Sophomore Jessica Cathey overcame a 78-80 (158) while freshman Morgan Kauffman (82-79) is at 161, followed by senior Tala Mumford (79-83=162) and freshman Morgan Gardner (83-83=166).
Bosworth finished the afternoon at 162 (85-77) while fellow freshman Kelsey Schutt shot 165 (83-82) and junior Meghan Mueller a 167 (85-82).
The tourney’s final round will be played Tuesday morning .
