Rossview Lady Hawks Come From Behind to Stun Overton, 56-54, Advance to State Tournament
Nashville, TN – The Rossview Lady Hawks overcame an eight point deficit in the final period to defeat the Overton Lady Bobcats, 56-54, at Overton High School Saturday, March 1, and advance to the State Tournament.
On her birthday, Lady Hawk Karle Pace scored eight points in the final period, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 31 seconds left on the clock.
“To be down 10 in a game of this magnitude and to not hang your head, to keep fighting, keep battling, keep talking to each other-They were talking to each other on the floor, helping each other. It was just unbelievable,” Lady Hawks’ head coach Justin Woods said.

The Lady Bobcats went into halftime with a 5 point lead. They opened the second half with a 6-0 run and by 3:41 left in the third period, they had expanded their lead to 10 points, 37-27.
Overton’s LaShae Brown did a lot of the damage making four, 3-pointers until that point. Rossview’s Janie White made her own 3-pointer as part of a Lady Hawks 9-2 run toward the end of the third period that closed the gap to five points. But Brown hit her fifth shot from downtown as time ran out of the third period to put the Lady Bobcats back up by eight points, 44-36.
The Lady Hawks turned up the defensive pressure and it paid off with 11 second half turnovers, seven in the last period.
“We talk about all the time how pressure is cumulative,” Woods said. “When the legs get tired, the mind gets tired and then they will make bad decisions. I think that’s what happened.”
As fatigue slowed down the Lady Bobcats offense, the Lady Hawks offense heated up. White capped off a Lady Hawk 8-2 run with a layup off a turnover to bring her team within two, 46-44 with five minutes left in the game.
Chelsea Nelson responded for the Lady Bobcats by driving to the basket, scoring while being fouled and converting the 3-point play from the free throw line to extend her team’s lead back to five.
With 2:43 remaining in the game, White made two free throws that put the Lady Hawks back within two, 51-49. On the ensuing possession, the Lady Bobcats turned over the ball and Pace made her first 3-pointer of the night to give the Lady Hawks their first lead since the second period, 52-51.
With 48 seconds on the clock, Jorry Patton put her Lady Bobcats back on top with a 3-pointer.
Fans on both sides were standing, cheering for their teams as the clock wound down to 31 seconds and Pace nailed her second 3-pointer of the game. It turned out to be the game-winner for the Lady Hawks.
Mickey Head grabbed two clutch rebounds from Lady Bobcats missed shots in the final seconds. On the second one, she was fouled and made of 1-of-2 free throws.
Nelson of the Lady Bobcats grabbed the rebound from Head’s missed free throw, ran the length of the court and launched a shot that could have tied the game, but missed.
White led all scorers with 25 points. Pace scored 12 and both Head and Jemiah Harrison added 7 points.
Brown led the Lady Bobcats with 15 points, Jorry Patton scored 14 and Nelson had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
With the win, this Lady Hawks team is the first in school history to advance to the State Tournament.
“I’m just so happy for the girls. They do all the hard work,” Woods said. “Obviously, we are happy to be going, but I don’t want to go just to go. I’m trying to win it. So let’s go.”
