      Nashville Sounds open homestand with 3-2 win over Iowa

      Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds kicked off their final homestand of the season with a 3-2 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs in front of 5,667 fans on Friday evening at Greer Stadium.

      PCL Pitcher of the Year Johnny Hellweg (12-5) turned in a solid final start to close out his first Triple-A season, logging his team-leading 12th quality start to earn the victory. The fireballer allowed two runs on six hits over his six innings of work, walking two batters and striking out five. Hellweg posted a 3.15 ERA in his 23 starts for Nashville this season.

      APSU Baseball announces three players not returning next year

      Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN –With the official start of classes this week, Austin Peay State University head baseball coach Gary McClure announced the departure of three players from the team.

      Senior designated hitter Michael Davis, sophomore first baseman Kyle Schlatter and junior infielder Brett Carlson will not return to Austin Peay for the 2013-14 academic year. Schlatter and Carlson departed the program with the intent to transfer to another university. Davis will not rejoin the team after committing a violation of team and athletics department policies.

      Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUKnoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.

      Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.

      Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – With 1:38 left in the game, the Tennessee Titans were down 24-23 to the Minnesota Vikings. The Titans had the ball at the Tennessee 20 yard line. Tennessee quarterback Rusty Smith quickly completes passes to Jalen Parmele for 5 yards and Jake Doyle for 17 yards moving the ball to the Tennessee 42.

      In the shotgun, Smith gets a bad snap from center Brian Schwenke which he is unable to handle and Collins Ukwu recovers the ball with 0:47 left for Minnesota. Vikings quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson takes two knees to end the game.

      Nashville Sounds Lose Series Finale to Oklahome RedHawks 5-4 In Extras

      Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – Despite having a lead in extra innings to put the pressure on the home team, the Nashville Sounds were unable to fight off the Oklahoma City RedHawks Thursday night at Chichasaw Bricktown Ballpark and lost the series finale 5-4 in the 14th inning. The teams split their final series of the season, 2-2.

      After tying the game at four runs apiece with two outs in the 12th inning, the RedHawks finished the job in the 14th when Jose Martinez hit the game-winning double down the left-field line to score infielder Raoul Torrez.

      Mallory Burman’s four-goal day powers Clarksville Academy Soccer past Northwest

      Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy’s senior midfielder Mallory Burman turned a hat-trick in the first half, Aug. 29th at Winn Field, before added a fourth goal after intermission to lead the Lady Cougars past Northwest High School, 7-2.

      For Burman, who has verbally committed to Austin Peay State University as a 2014 recruit, the hat-trick came on the first three goals of the match for Clarksville Academy, (3-2).

      Austin Peay LogoAtlanta, Ga. – James “Boots” Donnelly, the only coach to lead Austin Peay State University football to an Ohio Valley Conference championship was inducted into the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame, Wednesday night.

      The enshrinement ceremony was held at Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta. It was the first time the event was held in Atlanta, the new home of the Hall of Fame.
