Carbondale, Ill – The early season struggles continued for Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, Friday, against Southern Illinois. The Lady Govs were shutout, 7-0, for the third time in five matches this season.
Austin Peay (0-5) couldn’t overcome a veteran Saluki squad that returned every athlete from last season’s third-place Missouri Valley Conference team finish. Southern Illinois (5-1) took each match in straight sets from the Lady Govs.Sophomores Alison Carre and Vanessa Tavares fought valiantly in doubles, but fell to Korey Love and Anita Lee, 8-7. Junior Andra Cornea was the only Lady Gov to force a tiebreaker in singles, falling to Natasha Tomishima 6-2, 7-6 in No. 3 singles.
The Lady Govs return to the court tomorrow at the Austin Peay Tennis Center, where they host Division II foe Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m.
