Richmond, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team closes out the road portion of the 2012-13 schedule at McBrayer Arena, Saturday, when the Lady Govs face OVC East Division-leading Eastern Kentucky in a 3:00pm (CT) tip-off.  The Lady Colonels own a 25-8 mark all-time against Austin Peay in their home gym, although the Lady Govs won the last battle in Richmond, 66-63, Jan. 2nd, 2012.

Austin Peay brings a 2-11 OVC record into the contest after splitting last weekend’s Illinois road trip at SIU Edwardsville (win) and Eastern Illinois (loss)… the Lady Govs’ defense has struggled in the team’s OVC slate, allowing OVC opponents to shoot better than 40 percent from the floor 10 times in 13 games (43.3 percent combined) and average 70.8 points per game; however, the Lady Govs held SIU Edwardsville to 25 percent shooting last Saturday, the lowest figure a Carrie Daniels-coached APSU squad allowed.

APSU has won the turnover battle in 13 games this season – forcing its last seven opponents into a total of 19.8 turnovers per game – and owns a plus-2.4 turnover margin… in addition, the Lady Govs defense has recorded 10-plus steals 15 times this season, including a season-high 17 against Eastern Illinois, Monday… only four APSU players have played in every contest… seven players are averaging five or more points per game, with two averaging double figures (Meghan Bussabarger and Leslie Martinez at 12.8 and 10.5 points per game, respectively).

Eastern Kentucky is locked in a battle with Tennessee Tech and OVC newcomer Belmont for the top spot in the East Division; the Lady Colonels are 10-3, with both Tech and Belmont at 9-4… Eastern Kentucky controls the paint defensively, leading the OVC at 4.8 blocked shots per game; Jade Barber (1.8) and Brittany Coles (1.0) are the only teammates averaging more than a block per game…

The Lady Colonels spread the ball out offensively, with four players – Barber (12.8), Marie Carpenter (12.0), Coles (11.5) and Alex Jones (10.2) all averaging double figures in OVC play… Barber and Jones are the only teammates averaging a double-double in conference play – 12.8 ppg and 11.5 rpg for Barber, 10.2 and 11.4 for Jones – and two of only three in the OVC to do so.

An APSU win would end its road schedule with a victory for the first time since the 2010-11 season… be its third road conference win this season… make it 4-10 away from the Dunn Center in 2012-13… improve it to 3-11 in OVC play… make it 2-4 in February… improve Daniels’ record to 80-134 overall and 53-70 in OVC play… make the Lady Govs 433-607 overall since 1976-77.

An APSU loss would end its road schedule with a loss for the second season in a row… make it 2-12 in OVC play… make it 3-11 away from the Dunn Center this season… drop Daniels’ record to 79-135 overall and 52-71 in OVC play… make the Lady Govs 432-608 overall since 1976-77.
