Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has been picked to finish second at the Ohio Valley Conference Golf tournament that will be played in late April. That was announced Wednesday as a result of a preseason vote of league coaches.

The Governors received three of the 11 first-place votes, finishing with a total of 91 points, four behind defending OVC tourney champ Jacksonville State, which received the other eight first-place votes.

Austin Peay finished runner up to the Gamecocks in last season’s OVC tourney, letting a lead slip away over the final holes, losing by one stroke. Both teams returned the bulk of their rosters.

APSU again is expected to be by senior Dustin Korte, an All-OVC selection a year ago, along with defending OVC tourney medalist, Anthony Bradley, and fellow junior Marco Iten, who had an outstanding summer campaign in his native Switzerland after a superb spring Govs season.

Austin Peay claimed five top five finishes during the fall campaign including winning team championships at the Bearcat Invitational and APSU Intercollegiate. Bradley had a 72.9 stroke average in five events, including winning the Bearcat Invitational.

Murray State was picked third (81) and followed by Eastern Kentucky (66) and Belmont (65) in the preseason poll.

For the fourth year in a row the OVC Men’s and Women’s Championships will be held at the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn. The women’s championship will be held on April 21-23 while the men’s championship is set for April 25-27. This year marks the first with Belmont as a member of the OVC and first that SIUE is postseason eligible.

The Governors open the Spring 2013 next Friday when they play host to Dayton in a dual match at The Links at Novadel.
