      Austin Peay State University Baseball Govs win season opener 4-2 over Iowa

      Clarksville, TN – There’s no better way to start the season than with a win, and that’s just what the APSU Baseball team did with a 4-2 victory against Iowa at Raymond C. Hand Park Friday afternoon.

      Starting pitcher Lee Ridenhour struck out seven batters over seven innings and catcher P.J. Torres hit for three parts of the cycle in the win on Friday.

      Ridenhour began the game impressively – retiring Iowa in order in the first. His found his only trouble of the day in the second when he hit two batters and Iowa capitalized on third baseman Nick Day’s single for a 1-0 lead. «Read the rest of this article»

      Nashville Predators Forward Brian McGratten

      Nashville, TN –  Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has assigned forward Brian McGrattan to Milwaukee (AHL) on a two-week conditioning assignment.  McGrattan remains on Nashville’s active roster during the conditioning stint.

      McGrattan, 31 (9/2/81), has appeared in two games for the Predators in 2012-13. A season ago, he was claimed on waivers from Anaheim on Oct. 11, 2011 and played 30 games, notched two assists and recording 61 penalty minutes.

      Nashville Predators host Anaheim Ducks Saturday Night

      Nashville, TN -  The Nashville Predators hope to extend their winning streak at home Saturday night as the Anaheim Ducks visit “Smashville” at 7:00pm.   The Predators are coming off of a 3-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes Thursday night.

      Nick Spaling tallied his third goal of the season midway through the third period against Phoenix and Nashville is now 17-1-1 when Spaling scores and goal and 31-4-3 when he records a point.  Mike Fisher’s goal with 1:44 remaining broke an 11-game goalless streak.  He did not go more than nine games with scoring in 2011-12 and Matt Halischuk posted his first point of the season with his assist on Spaling’s goal. «Read the rest of this article»

      Austin Peay State University Lady Govs visit SIU Edwardsville

      Edwardsville, Ill – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team embarks on the 2012-13 season’s final road trip, Saturday, when they travel to SIU Edwardsville for a 4:00pm (CT) match-up with the Cougars.  The Lady Govs seek to bring an end to their three-game losing streak overall and a three-game slide against the Cougars.  SIU Edwardsville has lost two of three in February after ending January on a three-game winning streak.

      Austin Peay brings a 1-10 OVC record into the contest, its lone win coming at Jacksonville State, Jan. 28th.   The Lady Govs’ defense has struggled in the team’s OVC slate, allowing OVC opponents to shoot better than 40 percent from the floor nine times in 11 games (45.1 percent combined) and average 70.9 points per game.  «Read the rest of this article»

      Vanderbilt Baseball opens season hosting Long Beach State

      Nashville, TN -  The Vanderbilt baseball team opens their 2013 season by hosting Long Beach State at Hawkins Field.  With four commodores earning pre-season All-America recognition, and  a team picked to win the SEC East, the pressure is on the Commodores to produce.

      Vanderbilt opens the season against an unfamiliar foe in Long Beach State with this weekend’s series serving as the first three games the two schools have ever played.  Since Coach Corbin’s arrival in 2003, the Commodores are 6-4 in lid lifters, including 3-0 in season openers at Hawkins Field. «Read the rest of this article»

      McDonald’s All-America Game selects four Kentucky signees

      Lexington, KY -  Coming off their selection to the Jordan Brand Classic earlier this week, four Kentucky men’s basketball signees have been tabbed to the McDonald’s All-America Game April 3rd in Chicago.

      Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Marcus Lee, and James Young were chosen to take part in the annual event that has featured some of the best basketball talent in the country since 1978.

      Nashville, TN – The Vanderbilt Commodores welcome Texas A&M to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday afternoon at 5:30pm.  Vandy will close out a three game home stand with their SEC opponent.

      The Commodores dropped a 58-46 decision to Tennessee on Wednesday night at Memorial Gym in their last time out.  Kedren Johnson led all Vanderbilt players with 11 points, and freshman guard Kevin Bright was one rebound shy of his career high with 11. «Read the rest of this article»

      Knoxville, TN – The college basketball world is learning what we’ve know for years in Clarksville Tennessee.  Bashaara Graves is an amazing basketball player.  The Lady Vol freshman has been a big reason for much of the success the Tennessee Women’s Basketball team has had this year.

      Graves was part of outstanding high school program at Clarksville High School and was recruited to Tennessee by the legendary Pat Summitt.
