      Nashville Predators Try Hockey For Free, February 16th (Special Military Session)

      Nashville Predators - Get Out And LearnNashville, TN – Hey parents, do you have a child that wants to try hockey? The Nashville Predators, in association with Centennial Sportsplex, announce Get Out And Learn! (G.O.A.L!), a FREE beginner hockey program designed for boys and girls ages 5 to 8 with no prior experience.

      The one-day G.O.A.L! event is open to all children of military families (ages 5-8) at Fort Campbell, KY.       Austin Peay State University’s Travis Betran named OVC Newcomer of the Week

      Clarksville, TN – For the sixth time this season, Austin Peay State University junior guard Travis Betran has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

      In two games last week the Betran recorded 20-point outings en route to averaging 25 points per game. He finished the weekend shooting 57 percent (16 of 28) from the floor, including 53 percent (8 of 15) from the three-point line.       Nashville Predators host San Jose Sharks

      Nashville, TN – The Nashville Predators hope to break a two game losing streak Tuesday night as they host the San Jose Sharks at 7:00pm at the Bridgestone Arena.

      Kentucky Freshman receives SEC honors

       Birmingham ALA  -Freshman Nerlens Noel has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week for the fourth-consecutive week it was announced Monday afternoon.  Noel helped lead UK to a pair of wins at home this week to run the Wildcats’ winning streak to five games. Noel logged double-doubles in both outings and has now put together a career-long three-game double-double streak.

      The Everett, Mass., native had 10 points and 10 boards in a win over South Carolina to couple with five blocks. Against Auburn, he logged 10 points on a career-best 8-for-13 day at the free throw line to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds. He continued his streak of at least one block in every game this season, while also logging at least six rebounds in every game this season as well. «Read the rest of this article»

      University of Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes named SEC Player of the Week

      Knoxville, TN – The Southeastern Conference office announced Monday that Tennessee power forward Jarnell Stokes has been named SEC Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 4th-10th.

      Stokes averaged a double-double for the Volunteers last week, and his active streak of five straight double-doubles is tied as the longest such streak by an SEC player this season.  In dominant performances vs. Georgia and South Carolina, the Memphis, Tenn., native averaged 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds.  He also totaled four assists and four blocks. «Read the rest of this article»

      Tennessee gets first road win over South Carolina

      Columbia, SC -  Another double-double by Jarnell Stokes and clutch 3-pointers by Jordan McRae and Skylar McBee lifted the Vols to their first road win of the season, 66-61, over South Carolina, at Colonial Life Arena on Sunday. The Vols moved to 12-10 overall, 4-6 in the SEC.  South Carolina fell to 12-11 and 2-8 in the league.

      Stokes continued to exert his power as he recorded his fifth consecutive double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. That included five offensive rebounds, including two crucial ones in the final minutes.       Knoxville, TN – Led by junior Meighan Simmons who finished with 24 points, the Tennessee women’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back finishing with a 97-68 victory over Ole Miss (8-15, 1-9 SEC) in front of a crowd of 11,727 at Thompson-Boling Arena Sunday.
