      Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Belmont used a 14-0 late first-half run to break open a tight game and carried that momentum into the second half as Austin Peay State University fell, 78-65, Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action played in Dave Aaron Arena.

      Nashville Predators lose 2-1 to Minnesota Wild in overtime

      St.Paul, MN – The Nashville Predators saw their winning streak snapped against the Minnesota Wild Saturday night, as they lost in overtime,  2-1.  A controversial penalty on Paul Gaustad put the Predators a man down during the bonus period.

      Gaustad scored the only Predators goal at 10:11 into the first period with a wrist shot past Minnesota goalie Nicolas Backstrom.

      Minnesota evened the score at 12:59 into the second period with a tip-in past Predators goalie Chris Mason, who was playing in relief of Pekka Rinne. «Read the rest of this article»

      Austin Peay Women’s Basketball goes cold in loss to TSU

      Clarksville, TN –  A nine-minute first-half drought proved too much to overcome as Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team fell 71-52 to Tennessee State, Saturday, in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Dunn Center.

      Austin Peay head coach Carrie Daniels fielded a new starting five – junior guard Nicole Olszewski, sophomore guard Shelby Olszewski, sophomore guard Shira Buley, freshman guard Tiasha Gray and freshman forward Alexis Hardaway – against Tennessee State.       Tennessee Lady Vols host University of Mississippi

      Knoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee “Lady Vols” host Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.  Tennessee enters the contest on the heels of a last-second, 64-62 victory over LSU in Baton Rouge on Thursday Night.  The victory puts Tennessee back atop the SEC standings at 9-1.

      Ole Miss, meanwhile, had Thursday night off.  The Rebels dropped a 79-53 decision at Vanderbilt in their last game on Feb. 3rd and stand at 14th in the league standings entering Sunday’s contest.

      Tennessee has won 13 of it’s last 14 games vs. SEC foes, dating back to last season, including five in a row at home and seven of it’s last eight on the road.  The Lady Vols hope to start stringing together some victories after alternating wins and losses in their last five games.

      Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Gary McClure, Austin Peay State University’s all-time winningest baseball coach who has taken his Governors to five NCAA Regionals, and Dr. W. Cooper Beazley, whose dedication to APSU athletics and its athletes extends well beyond financial contributions and services, were inducted into to the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.

      In addition, Andrew Lorentzson, who starred in basketball for Austin Peay in the mid-1930s when it was a junior college, also was inducted through the University’s new Honors category, reserved for those former athletes who competed at least 50 years ago. Loren McCamey Schanding, granddaughter of the late Lorentzson, who died in 1971, accepted the award for the family.

      Janet Wilson receives Dr. Leon Bibb Hall of Fame Scholarship

      Clarksville, TN – Janet Wilson was the recipient of the 2013 Dr. Leon Bibb Hall of Fame Scholarship during the annual Hall of Fame Breakfast at Austin Peay State University.  The University inducted three new members into it’s Hall of Fame with the induction of Dr. Cooper Beazley, APSU Baseball Coach Gary McClure, and Andrew Lorentzson.

      Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team has put together a deep class for its 2013 National Signing Day, adding eight in-state players for the fall season.

      “The most important goal for this class was to bring in people that can not only come in and make an impact right away, but that can help us in the future,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “We felt that this class will give us some players that will help us not only now but down the road.
